Hanaka (華雅) is one of the smaller names on the Asakusa kimono rental scene: a single fourth-floor shop in Kaminarimon 2-chome, a short walk from the gate, run by a company called Hanaka LLC. It gets its own review because it supplies the kimono-and-rickshaw package sold on GetYourGuide, the listing many visitors find first when they look for kimono and rickshaw together. The short version: the shop is good, the package is fair, and the word "rickshaw" in its title is doing more work than the ride itself.
Prices are the lowest option the platform shows, in US dollars, and move with dates and exchange rates. The booking page is final. Prices checked: September 28, 2026.
The shop
You'll find it on the 4th floor of the Dwell Asakusa IV building at 2-3-7 Kaminarimon. Hanaka says it is 30 seconds on foot from both the Ginza Line and the Toei Asakusa Line, which is about as close to the station as rental shops get. It opens 9:30–18:30 and closes on irregular days, so check the calendar before you plan a trip around it. The phone number is 03-6231-6782.
The staff include licensed beauticians and dressing instructors trained in the Yamano school, one of the big Japanese kimono-dressing academies. That matters more than it sounds: a well-tied obi still looks right at 17:00, and a hurried one is sagging by lunch.
Two practical points put Hanaka ahead of several larger rivals. It keeps luggage for free (valuables excepted), which is useful if you come from the airport on the Toei line with a suitcase. And the kimono is due back at 18:00, which ties with wargo for the latest standard return time among the shops we compared. Kimono Miyabi wants it back by 17:00, VASARA and YAE by 17:30. On festival days such as the Sumida River fireworks, the return time changes, so ask.
The GetYourGuide package, line by line
The package runs about three hours and is priced per person. It includes:
- a kimono in any size, with large sizes at no extra charge
- dressing and a simple hair set
- a pouch and sandals
- a 12-minute rickshaw ride
- a photo session and a guide
From June to September you get a yukata instead of a kimono. The kimono goes back by 18:00, as at the shop.
The rickshaw is where expectations need managing. A 12-minute ride is the short photo ride the Asakusa stands sell to walk-ups: Ebisuya charges ¥5,000 for two for it on the street, against ¥10,000 for 30 minutes. It gets you a few blocks around Kaminarimon and a photo in the seat. The package page says longer rides can be arranged with the puller on the day, at extra cost. The listing also sets limits you should read before booking: it isn't open to guests over 100 kg or 200 cm tall, pregnant guests, anyone over 80, or babies under one. These are the package's rules, not a general rickshaw rule. Ebisuya, for example, publishes no weight limit and takes pregnant riders from week 17 with a seatbelt.
On reviews: the package had a perfect score but only nine reviews when we checked. That is too few to say much, positive or negative. The live rating shows in the booking box above.
Hanaka's own prices
If you book with the shop directly, the menu is longer and cheaper for groups. Note that these prices exclude tax; add 10%.

Children's hakama start at ¥4,950 and a wedding-kimono set for two, with rickshaw and photos, is ¥38,500 (both tax included). Lace kimono are listed from ¥4,950 with tax on ActivityJapan.
Is the package better value than doing it yourself? For a solo traveler who wants kimono, hair, a rickshaw photo and someone to take the pictures, it is convenient and the extras add up quickly if you buy them one by one. For two people who mainly want a proper rickshaw ride, it's better to book Hanaka's pair plan direct and put the savings toward a 30-minute ride. Check the live package price in the booking box against those numbers on the day.
Sizes
Women's kimono come in S, M, L and LL. Hanaka is upfront that guests of 170 cm or more can rent but the kimono will be slightly short. That honesty is worth something; some shops simply tell you it will fit. Booking and cancellation
Hanaka sells through its own site and through GetYourGuide, Klook, asoview, Jalan and ActivityJapan. The cancellation terms differ by channel:
- Hanaka direct: free until 18:00 the day before; same-day cancellations are charged.
- GetYourGuide package: free cancellation up to 24 hours ahead, and you can reserve now and pay later.

Who should book Hanaka
Book the package if you are one or two people, you want the kimono to be the main event and a rickshaw photo as a bonus, and you like having a guide and photographer arranged for you. Book Hanaka direct if you are a group, because the per-head price drops with numbers. Look elsewhere if the rickshaw is the reason you're going.
